KPI Gamification - Leagues

KPI Gamification using the leagues format

The KPI Gamification Module allows customers to run competitions amongst their users or sites, to encourage and motivate them to increase some customer-determined KPI.

For more information on Leagues, please take a look at our Feature Showcase - available here.

Games updates are communicated in two ways:

  • specific conversations to provide daily updates on the competitor's progress toward the goal and allow users to chat with their fellow competitors, increasing engagement, fostering a healthy (and fun!) sense of competition, and all whilst focused on the common goal.

  • a WebUI/webpage that displays the League table for the current round and season totals

Unlike the knockout format, where the number of actively competing users would progressively become fewer as the tournament advanced, the League format allows all participants to remain actively competing throughout the course of the games.

This is achieved by assigning points to the participating group after a given round, where these are then rank-ordered. The aim of the game here is to consistently score positively in order to achieve maximum points to put you at the top of the league.

We took inspiration from the F1 Tournament Scoring System, although you don't need to be familiar with F1 to play. F1 fans will know the races (which we refer to as rounds) usually compete in three areas;

  • Front Row - High Achieving

  • Midfield - Consistently Average

  • Backmarkers - Okay Performance but Improvements Possible

Participants in these areas, each generally aim to achieve different things. The front row looks to place first, the midfield look to maximise any opportunities to get ahead of others, and the backmarkers look to improve on their own performance.

Leagues Configuration

EPOS Data Validation

Further to the data specification outlined in the Business Data/EPOS Data Specification Article, there are some additional data specific questions that will also need to be addressed, such as:

  1. Identify KPI measure and scaling-factor in the data source and confirm data source mapping.

  2. Confirm desired protocol for missing data procedure.

  3. Reporting delay of data - the delay from which the end-of-day data will be able to be sent to us, so we can send the in-chat updates.

Once your EPOS data source has been validated and confirmed to contain the relevant data for your gamified measures (KPI), as mentioned above, you'll be ready to configure your leagues by following the following configuration options:

League Config Specification:

  1. Confirm the Tournament name.

  2. Identify if the season is going to be played in one or multiple divisions

  3. Identify participants/groups that are to be clustered per division.

  4. Confirm which users should be added as "watchers" to each division.

  5. Confirm the season start date.

  6. Confirm the number of rounds to be played - think the number of races in an F1 season.

  7. Confirm the length of rounds to be played - think the length of the race.

  8. Confirm daily messaging time.

  9. Confirm the KPI measure and scaling-factor measure name, which will be displayed in the messaging.

  10. Confirm the "target", as will be displayed in the messaging.
