Broadcast messaging is a technique used to deliver information to lots of recipients at once.

Creating a group yap either by role or by individual gives you the option to enable or disable an Open Discussion in your chat.

By default, in the Parameters section of your conversation settings this conversation is open. Should you wish to create a broadcast channel, simply click the red X on the right-hand side of the Open Discussion option.

You'll notice this now shows Open Discussion as disabled and you a message will display letting you know that only Administrators can post messages to this chat with its current settings.

Do I need to create a broadcast yap?

The main benefit of having a broadcast yap is that important announcements are not lost as your audience reacts to new information thanks to replies being disabled. Broadcast yaps allow for critical updates to be distributed to high volumes of staff at the same time, and work best when:

  • they are owned and administered by a member of the management team that is regularly tasked with distributing company-wide updates at scale;

  • the information being circulated is relevant to the entire audience included as participants in the yap;

  • all employees are regularly reminded of the purpose of the broadcast yap, and know to refer back to prior updates whenever they need to.

Potential practical applications of a broadcast yap include:

  • Product Recalls;

  • Notice of seasonal changes;

  • Company survey or feedback reminders;

  • Monthly newsletter distribution;

  • Policy Updates.
