Retiring a yap is the Yapster equivalent of deleting a group chat.

Why is it called "Retiring" and what does it mean?

Yapster's role as a workplace messaging tool means that a record must be kept of content posted in a customer workspace. This means group chats are never deleted, but retiring a yap is a substitute for the permanent deletion of these chats.

Who can retire a group chat?

  1. The owner of a yap

  2. A participant with the appropriate admin permissions

  3. The Yapster Support Team (if its a Guide Dog owned chat, or if the owner has left and no other admins were assigned)

How to Retire a Group Chat

Step 1: In the group yap you'd like to edit, head to the (i) icon in the top right corner of the screen.

Step 2: Click EDIT to move to the conversation settings page:

Here you also have the ability to edit the title of the yap, disable replies to create a broadcast yap, retire the conversation and add or change the image of a yap.

Step 3: Click the Retire Conversation button

This will remove all participants from the group yap and automatically move the conversation to the owners and administrators archive.

In short, for users who were a part of the group conversation, the yap will disappear from their inboxes, but you as the owner/administrator will be able to access the content by searching for the yap in your archive.

Retiring yaps you no longer need or that are no longer relevant to your teams is a great form of housekeeping. Think about yaps that were for a particular occasion or temporary situation - your teams will not be using them regularly or even at all.

If Yapster Bot is the owner and you no longer need the yap, click here to flag this to our team.
