An @mention in a newsfeed post is used when the author wants to direct specific users to the content in a post.

When a user is @mentioned in a newsfeed post, a push notification will be delivered to their device lock screen. This notification will show a preview of the newsfeed caption and the tagged users.
Opening the notification will direct the user to the tagged post.
The @mention will be highlighted in blue.
Your activity tab will also display a dot to indicate new activity. Clicking the activity tab will show a log of all direct interaction within the app. Unread or new activity will display an orange dot to be cleared.
Clear your unread activity either by:
clicking the double tick in the top right corner of the screen (this will clear all unread badges) OR
swiping left on each individual log of activity and selecting clear.
